What this means for you
Auction end times
We are working to standardize auction end times to improve user experience and consistency. All auctions will end daily at 11 AM NYC (4:00 PM London, 5:00 PM Rome, 1:00 AM Tokyo, and so on).
Tools available
- Proxy Bid: Set your highest bid in advance, and our system will bid for you.
- Auctions API Access: Automate bidding and track auctions efficiently.
Closeout changes
We have also improved our closeout process to make it easier for our customers. Now, if an auction ends with no bids, the auction will automatically extend for another 24 hours, and the minimum bid will start at the lower price of $5.
Important note: Please be aware that registry-listed .ai domains marked as "Partner" do not go to closeouts, and unsold .ai domains are not released for registration immediately.
Seem to go to auctions after 7 days after expiration. Expiration Date doesn't count in that total – so if the expiration date is December 1st, it would be listed on December 9th.
Auctions are for 24 days.
Current as of 12/7/24

Spaceship Expired Domain Names
Spaceship domains follow a multi-stage life cycle after expiration.
Grace Period (30 days after expiration)
After a domain expires, it enters a 30-day Grace Period. During the first 7 days, the domain remains active and continues to resolve normally. The domain can be renewed during this time by paying the standard renewal price. On the 8th day after expiration, the domain stops resolving.
Redemption Period (approximately 42 days)
If the domain is not renewed during the Grace Period, it enters the Redemption Period, which typically lasts 42 days. The domain can still be recovered during this time, but an additional redemption fee applies on top of the renewal price. Redemption fees vary by TLD. To restore a domain in redemption, add it to the Shopping Cart in your Spaceship account – the cart will display the renewal price along with the applicable redemption fee.
Pending Delete (5 days)
After the Redemption Period, the domain enters a 5-day Pending Delete phase. During this stage, the domain is no longer visible in Domain Manager. It is being cleared and prepared for release into the public registration pool.
Special TLD Rules
Some domain extensions have different timelines. For example, .EU domains have no Grace Period and enter Redemption one day before their expiration date.
