What Happens When a Key-Systems Domain Expires?
Key-Systems GmbH is an ICANN-accredited domain registrar based in Germany that operates the RRPproxy (now CentralNic Reseller) platform. Key-Systems is part of the CentralNic Group. When a Key-Systems domain expires, the expired inventory is sent to GoDaddy Auctions.

Key-Systems Domain Grace Period
After a Key-Systems domain expires, the registrant has a grace period to renew. Key-Systems requires renewal fees to be received at least 3 days before the contract period expires. If the fee is not received, the customer loses their rights to the domain name. For domains with a Renewal Grace Period, Key-Systems will not deactivate or delete the domain until at least 14 days after expiration.
Where Does Key-Systems Auction Expired Domains?
Key-Systems sends its expired domain inventory to GoDaddy Auctions. The domains follow the standard GoDaddy expired domain auction timeline — a 10-day auction followed by a 5-day closeout with declining prices.
Key-Systems, RRPproxy, and CentralNic
Key-Systems operates several related brands in the domain industry:
- RRPproxy (now CentralNic Reseller) — A reseller platform that provides domain registration services to hosting companies and other resellers
- CentralNic Group — The parent company that acquired Key-Systems
- WHOIS Server:
whois.rrpproxy.net - IANA ID: 269
If your domain's WHOIS shows "Key-Systems GmbH" as the registrar or uses whois.rrpproxy.net as the WHOIS server, it follows the expiration process described on this page.
Key-Systems Domain Redemption Period
If the domain is not renewed during the grace period, it enters the redemption grace period. During this time, the domain can be restored by paying an additional fee set by the registry or registrar. The redemption process is typically manual and more costly than standard renewal.
Per Key-Systems' registration agreement, for domain names not extended at expiry despite reminders or due to non-payment, Key-Systems is authorized to deactivate the domain, return it to the registry for deletion, or utilize it in other ways.
